The Future is Orange …
… it’s a Virtual Christingle!
Christingles are festive celebrations that take place in our communities every year. They get their name from the object lit during the ceremony – oranges decorated with red tape, sweets or dried fruit and a candle.
This year (you’ve guessed it) we’re doing things a bit differently. The churches of Silsoe, Flitton and Pulloxhill have joined forces, inviting you to take part in our very own local celebration of Christingle, but in a virtual version.
We’ve made a short video service, offering simple thoughts and prayers on the theme of light & hope. Jo Payne will show you how to make your own Christingle and then you can send in a picture of your Christingle for a chance to win a chocolate orange. Watch with us ‘It Begins in Bethlehem – A Nativity Rhyme for Christmastime’ – written and voiced by Bob Hartman with illustrations by Mark Beech.
Click on the picture below to play the service on YouTube (which will open on a new page).
You are welcome to watch the service at any time, but if you would like to worship with our Virtual Congregation, we suggest you watch the service at 10am on Sunday.
We’re inviting all who take part, if they are able, to make a donation to the Children’s Society – you can donate online here.
We’d also love to see a photo of your Christingle – email your picture to VirtualVicar@3churches.uk. We’ll post them in our Christingle gallery. and award festive choccie oranges to the senders of the best ten pictures!
We hope by offering our virtual Christingle that we can bring local families a bit of joy this December, and provide children in need with the hope and support they require.
Hope you’ll join us & best wishes,
David Payne
