On Sunday 14 May Gillian Kern was licensed as a new Reader for the Benefice of Silsoe, Flitton and Pulloxhill. Gillian has a long association with the Church, having led the 3 churches choir for many years before deciding to train as a Reader. As a Reader she will work with Rev Dave Bell to lead worship, preach and to share in pastoral and evangelical work.
The licensing service was held at St Albans Cathedral and was conducted by the Bishop of Hertford, the Rt. Revd Dr Michael Beasley. Gillian was one of 10 candidates licensed on that day and she received excellent support as there were about 25 people from all three Churches in the Benefice at the service. Following the service everyone invited back to Silsoe Church for celebratory refreshments including a glass of “fizz”.
Gillian preached for the first time in the Benefice at the Parish Communion at Silsoe on 28 May and she led her first service at Flitton on 4 June. The congregations from all three Churches have given Gillian a very warm welcome and are looking forward to her contributions to and support for the range of worship offered by all three Churches.
