On Sunday 29 September Bishop Richard had prepared a statement regarding the appointment of Rev Ian Smith which was read out at both Renhold and Flitton Churches at the same time. It read;
I am delighted to confirm that the Reverend Ian Smith is to be the new Minister in Charge (0.5) of the Benefice of Renhold. It is hoped that Ian will be licensed as Minister in Charge sometime in early January. The date will be confirmed as soon as possible. In the meantime, both benefices will remain very much in my prayers.
Commenting on his appointment, Rev Ian Smith said:
This is an amazing opportunity for me to grow and develop my ministry in a single church Benefice whilst enabling me to continue working full time so supporting my family.
It will give me the chance to live in a parish where I am a minister, something which is not possible here through the level of demand and time required to service the 3 parishes.
It has been a hard decision to make as both I and the family have had such a rewarding time with you here – we love it here but I feel that this is a place that God is calling me to; to use the skills and gifts that I have been given here; timing is terrible with Dave going but I have managed to secure my time with you until the end of the year.
As Bishop Richard indicated in his statement of announcement – We are not sure of exact timings for my licensing service at Renhold yet and therefore cannot definitely say my date for leaving you; but as soon as this is made available to me, I will inform the wardens and ministry team and you all through notices and pew sheets.
I thank you for all your love, care and support and look forward to the blessings that our remaining time together in this benefice will bring.
Rev Ian
